Building an extension on to your existing property is a great way to increase the value of your home and create more space in the process. It is therefore worth taking the time to get it right.
It is important to start with a list of needs that the extension will service before you start on design. what areas of your house are full to bursting and what special requirements do have in the new extension - Storage, Bedrooms, Utility room, Living space etc.
These needs to be considered when you go to the initial drawing up of plans. What needs to be accommodated in the extension and what can you live without - will the extra bedroom accommodate the storage you require as well?
You will also need to consider the Plot you have, are you in a terrace, semi detached or in 4 acres of your own ground! These will have limiting effects on the size of the extension you can create.
